The Big Book of Quickies: 69 Erotic Stories is out now!
My flash fiction book of erotica is finally here
Exciting news: my flash fiction smut anthology The Big Book of Quickies: 69 Erotic Stories is OUT NOW in ebook for Kindle, Nook, and Kobo! The print edition is available now from Bookshop, with an audiobook down the road. You can see the whole table of contents here.
Less exciting, for Amazon shoppers, unfortunately it’s not available in print right now on Amazon, though I hope it will be soon. Please know I wish it were on sale there now, and that I’d already received my author copies, but I have zero control over that.
If you read the book (or some of the book), it would be VERY helpful to me if you leave a short review, even just one sentence, on Amazon and/or Goodreads. I know you probably hear every author say that, but it really does make a big difference. You don’t have to buy the book on Amazon to leave a review there. This is a great way to shout out your favorite story or stories, and reviews make it more likely that new readers will discover the book.
In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have taken on a 69-story anthology last year during one of the most stressful times of my life, though thankfully most of my editing work was done before things got too intense. If you’re considering editing an anthology, know that the more stories you have, your work increases exponentially. This is my sixth 69-story flash fiction anthology (following Gotta Have It, The Big Book of Orgasms Volumes 1 and 2, The Big Book of Submission Volumes 1 and 2), and while the work has gotten easier since the first one, despite knowing how to do it, it’s still a lot to wrangle. Thankfully, I did something with this one I should have done with the others, which is give authors an ebook copy vs. sending out dozens of books, which are very costly for me (I paid for the books, envelopes, and postage). I’m very happy that I got to work with so many authors I’ve never worked with before.
It’s a little bittersweet because this is my second-to-last erotica anthology as I make the switch to nonfiction. My fingers are crossed that my agent can sell my essay anthology proposal about our personal attachment to our belongings. I’ll share more about that if/when there’s news. I’m also writing essays and articles and planning my September small group essay writing class and other projects.
Even though it’s definitely the right decision for me at the moment (I may return to erotica down the road), it’s an odd feeling to know that I won’t have any books coming out next year. I’ve gotten used to the rhythm of having 2-3 anthologies published annually for over a decade, but I don’t have time to pursue other big projects with that schedule, and I feel like I’ve done what I wanted to do within the erotica genre. By December’s release of Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Volume 10, 811 authors will have been published in my anthologies, and that’s something I’ll always be proud of.
Here’s some of my favorite lines from The Big Book of Quickies. It makes a sexy summer read, and a great gift to a special someone (or yourself!).
“Mile High Hotness” by me:
Gina would have thought that trying to pretend this wasn’t happening would be challenging, but somehow, the impromptu acting came naturally. As her pussy throbbed with the pleasure Marnie was coaxing from her, and the pinches Clyde was giving her inner thigh, the rest of her seemed to melt into the seat, as if she belonged there.
“Home Is Where the Dom Is” by Jodie Griffin:
With that, he led her over to the long, thin table behind their sofa, his large hand warm against her back, pressing her down.
Oh, this. She loved this. She lay her head on her crossed arms, closing her eyes, trying hard to do what he asked. Let it go.
His hand slapped her ass on one side, then the other. “No hiding. Look up and keep your eyes on the mirror in the hall. On me. I want you to watch. And I want you to listen to what I have to say,” he said, tugging at the ponytail that had slipped during the long day.
“Quenched” by Rien Gray:
When they stopped, Revna murmured, “I apologize for staring. I meant nothing cruel; I promise—”
“Everyone stares at me here,” Signe interrupted, low but gentle. “Although your reasons are different, yes? You want something.”
Revna’s eyes widened. Want was only the beginning, a fraction of the fantasies that flourished in her mind when the mercenary appeared. She had been with women before, but not one who could overwhelm her completely, whose fingers encircled her arm with length to spare.
“Imagine, Reader” by Mary Walker:
And then, suddenly, you are the angel Castiel, in one of the many, many fanfics you have read about Castiel and Dean. You want Dean so bad, but you don’t know what it’s like to have carnal knowledge of a human. You just know that you are taken with him, this righteous man, who went to hell to save his little brother. You love his close-cropped hair, his cheekbones, his eyelashes. You love his ribs, where you magically carved Enochian symbols, aching over every slice of bone. You long to be close to him, to give him everything, anything he wants—and in the dark of night, when Dean calls out to you to save him from the nightmares of his endless torment in hell, you hold him, and he kisses your eyelids, and . . .
“Spiced for Her Pleasure by Zélia Parks:
She rubs me, her fingers working their tortuous magic on my body. She finds that spot, that most delicious spot, and rubs it hard. Her movements grow more purposeful, more intense, as she makes my burning slit yearn for her.
The fire rises, an excruciating, stinging heat—deliberate and cruel, and yet it is exactly what I want most. To be her good girl, to let her torture me thusly. As my climax builds, when I can hardly take another moment of it, she opens her shirt and puts a breast to my lips. Hungrily, I envelop her nipple with my mouth, savoring the sweetness of her as I suck. She lets out a gasp as her milk starts to flow. The creamy fluid relieves the burn on my tongue just as the burn on my clit reaches its peak, pushing me over the edge.
And here’s some of what Publishers Weekly said about the book: “Bussel has a fine instinct for picking the steamiest of erotic shorts that her fans have come to trust over the several dozen anthologies she’s edited—and this will not disappoint. These bite-size sensual encounters will leave readers hot and bothered.”
And here’s the official description:
This abundant book offers a plethora of sizzling stories for the erotica lover on the go. . .
Who says quick sex can't be thrilling? There's something exhilarating about the rush of raw emotions, wild, naked escapades, and the excitement of giving in to temptation without a moment's notice. The same can be said for an erotic tale that can leave you breathless in just a few minutes of unabashed ardor.
The Big Book of Quickies was designed for erotica lovers who don't have hours to spare getting swept away, much like the characters you will meet. But don't let the title fool you: although hasty when it comes to getting down and dirty, this collection offers plenty of variety in these 69 tales of rapture and hot sex of all kinds. From raunchy to romantic, these stories include a wide range of sexualities, turn-ons, fetishes, and kinks, taking place in the real world and paranormal realms.
Whether bedding a stranger just for the moment, taking a few minutes to indulge their desires with a long-time partner, or pursuing their biggest sexual fantasy, putting pleasure front and center is what these horny characters have in common. If erotic tension, burning desire, and instant gratification are what you seek, look no further than The Big Book of Quickies.
I hope you enjoy it!
ICYMI, in the nonfiction realm are my latest essays: HuffPost on love, laughing, and giggle incontinence (a term I learned from a reader post-publication - thank you!) and Business Insider on being in a 12-year non-married relationship.
